The Cordell City Council held their monthly council meeting this Monday along with the Utilities Authority board meeting, and the Development and Redevelopment Authority board meeting.
Some notable items from the city council meeting were in regards to possible upcoming Fourth of July events.
The Chamber of Commerce requested the consideration to close Second Street by the park on July 3 for a Fourth of July event, along with opening the swimming pool for a free swim day. The Chamber and the Fire Department will work together on this event. Council passed the street closure and free pool admission.
In conjunction with the previous item, the Cordell Fire Department requested $7,500 to put on a professional firework display on the night of the Chamber’s Fourth of July event. This item also passed.
The Chamber was also able to successfully request a closure on Market Street for their Food Truck Night on April 24.
Other items included citizens requesting that the city install speed bumps on Maple Street in order to slow traffic.
This request comes as some parents said they feared their children may get hurt due to speeding drivers. Alternative suggestions were made by council members; however, no motion was made on this item.
A consideration to approve Mutual Aid Agreement for SoonerWarn and an approval for a contract with Myers Engineering for the purchase of two new outdoor storm warning sirens and relocation of two existing sirens were also approved.
During the Development and Redevelopment Authority board meeting, the Chamber of Commerce again requested an answer on leasing and operating the Washita Theater. This item was tabled again due to ongoing cleaning at the Theater.
