Canute School Board draws multiple filings for open board seat

The Washita County Election Board has announced that a Primary Election will be held for Board of Education Office No. 3 in the Washita County School District on Tuesday, February 14th, 2023 . State law mandates a primary election be held if more than two candidates file for the same school board office and three candidates have filed for the position on the Canute Board. The candidates for that position are Brad Hohnke, Josh Thompson, and Steven Schuster.

Candidates filing unopposed are Cordell- Mike Reimer, Burns Flat-Dill City: Brian Mooney, Sentinel- Cade Sites, and Western Technology Center- Phil W. Delp.

According to Washita County Election Board Secretary Assistant Ashton Hymer , if one candidate receives more than 50% of the votes, that candidate will be named the elected official. If no one receives more than 50% of the votes, the top two candidates will vie for the position in the April 2023 Board of Education General Election.

Voters who are registered and reside at an address within the geographical boundaries of the Washita County School District are eligible to vote in both the Primary and Board of Education General Election.
