Due to the resignation of Washita County’s Assessor Georgia Lawson, the Board of County Commissioners have called for a Special Election to fill that office. Lawson’s resignation is effective March 31, 2024.
The filing period for qualified candidates will be open from April 3rd through 5th. In the event that there are more than two qualified candidates from any political party there will be a Primary Election on June 18, 2024. If no candidate from each party receives more than 50% of the vote during the Primary, those candidates will advance to the Run-Off Primary Election on August 27, 2024, and the General Election on November 5th will determine the winning candidate.
Lawson said “I will be leaving the Assessor’s office due to a family relocation. I am sad to say goodbye to my position, but I have fully trained my staff and I have worked side-by-side with Sue Fletcher to teach her the duties of my office. Sue plans to run for Assessor and I highly recommend that the voters of Washita County choose her to be their next Washita County Assessor.”
