Early voting for the June 18th Primary and Special Election begins on June 13th for Washita County voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on Election Day.
Washita County Election Board Secretary Assistant Ashton Hymer , said early voting is open to all voters.
“You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the County Election Board or State Election Board—from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on Election Day or who want to avoid long lines,” Hymer said.
Early voting is available Thursday, June 13th and Friday, June 14th from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, June 15th from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Washita County Courthouse Election Board Ofiice located at 111 E Main St. Cordell OK . Hymer reminds voters that early voting is not available at polling locations.
It is important for voters to understand that since all candidates running in this election are registered Republicans, ONLY registered Republican voters will be eligible to vote. If you are not eligible to vote in this election, you can still support the process by encouraging eligible friends and family to make it to the polls.
Local races have been heating up as candidates make a final push to reach voters, with some going door-to-door to introduce themselves as well as posting signs, billboards, and sending mailouts to homes.
On the official ballot at the State level are candidates for State Corporation Commissioner Justin Hornback, J. Brian Bingman, and Russell Ray, and candidates for District 03 State Representative Darren Hamilton, Frank D. Lucas, and Robin Lynn Carder.
At the local level, several offices which are critical in the successful operation of Washita County are on the ballot.
Incumbent Kristen Dowell and her opponent Angie Strobel are vying for the office of Washita County Clerk, Russell Stewart and Kevin Rozell are running for the position of Washita County Sherrif, and Sue Fletcher and Rusty Bookout are seeking to fill the unexpired term of Washita County Assessor after the resignation of Georgia Lawson.
Voters from affected precincts will also have a choice between incumbent Leo Goeringer and David Gray for the position of District II Washita County Commissioner.
Some past elections have suffered from low voter turnout, so all eligible Republican voters are urged to cast their votes, either with early voting at the Election Board or on Election Day, June 18th. Absentee voting for this election concluded on June 3rd.
