It’s that time of the year again! For a little over four decades, Washita County residents have come together to enjoy the annual 4-H Bean Supper and Carnival. This year’s event is set to take place on Nov. 8 at the Washita County Activity Center in Cordell. “This is truly a tradition in Washita County that brings all of our communities together,” said Dana Church, Washita County 4-H Youth Development Educator with Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension. The meal will be served from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will include baked potatoes, brown beans, coleslaw, corn bread and cakes provided by the 4-H Clubs. The carnival will commence at 6 p.m. and last until 7:30 p.m. “This is a great fall family event that is a long-standing tradition for many families in Washita County. Our 4-H’ers, parents and volunteers work hard to ensure everyone is well fed and children have a lot of fun at the carnival,” said Church.
Tickets are available for purchase from your local 4-H club members or at the door. Bean Supper tickets are $5, preschool and under eat free. A $5 wristband will be available for unlimited carnival games. The cost for individual games tickets will be 50 cents per ticket, or $1 for three tickets.
Participants at the carnival will receive prize tickets after playing the games that may be used at a store operated by 4-H’ers to redeem tickets for small toys.
This is the largest fundraiser event of the year for the program. All proceeds will be used to fund the supplies needed for competitions, workshops and camps that the county 4-H sponsors, along with recognition and awards presented throughout the year.
The Washita County 4-H Donation Drive starts in November as well. Donations are welcome at the Washita County Extension Office, 125 W Main in Cordell.
Recognition is given to all donors throughout the year by Washita County 4-H. In addition, the “Gold Clover” Donors will have their name listed on the 2021-22 Washita County 4-H t-shirt, and receive one to wear as well.
“Our 4-H program wouldn’t be nearly as successful without the support of our donors. On behalf of the Washita County 4-H Program, I extend our sincere thank you to every person and entity that contributes to our success,” said Church.
