West Squad Dominates East At Girls All-State Golf

Powered by the team of Cordell’s Megan Brown and Elk City’s Haylee Poole, the West knocked off the East 19-5 at the girls All-State golf tournament. Brown and Poole shot a tournament-low 68 to knock off the East’s team of Callie Jackson of Coweta and Emily Potter of Henryetta, 4-0.

In other matches, the West team of Abigaile Weatherford (Paul’s Valley) and Alexa Benedict (Burns Flat-Dill City) defeated Natalea Harcrow (Tishomingo) and Autumn Conneywerdy (Frontier) 4-0, shooting a round of 80 against 97. Brooklyn Bostick (Duncan) and Jaelynn Unger (Noble) defeated Blayne Barker (Durant) and Abbey Hunt (Durant), 3.5-0.5, 70-77. Grace Griggs (Edmond North) and Alyssa Wilson (Yukon) beat Kenzie Kirkhart (Hilldale) and Kennedy Maybee (Jenks) 3-1, 69-75. Hannah Torres (Piedmont) and Jade McCurdy (Purcell) defeated Kirsten Matlock (Muldrow) and Madison Foster (Owasso), 4-0, 76-82.

The East’s only win of the day came from Emma Shelley (Bartlesville) and Sydney Hermann (Ponca City), who knocked off Adeline Norton (Plainview) and Hallie Schultz (Plainview), 3.5-0.5, 68-73, keeping the pace with Brown and Poole for the tournament’s low round.

The All-State tournament is a paired three-tier match play format. Each team shoots 18 holes, six each in a scramble, best ball, and alternating shot. Points are awarded for each six hole format, with an additional point given to the team with the lowest total score.
