Season of Route 66 Nights Kicks Off In Weatherford

Motors are revving for the 2019 Season of Route 66 Nights in Weatherford with an August 9 launch of the Back-To-School Bash.

Headquartered in Towne Centre Weatherford, the series of Route 66 themed festivals include live music, food vendors, prizes, giveaways, jump house, classic cars and much, much more.

The highlight of the first festival with be singer/ songwriter Ross Newell who will appear on stage on Main Street 7 p.m. The event begins at 6 p.m. as the street shuts down for the festival and lasts until 9 p.m.

Over 22 volunteers have put together a season of exciting events celebrating the magic of “Getting Your Kicks on Route 66.”

Organized through the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce and in collaboration with Music on Main, Weatherford Arts Council and the Stafford Air and Space Museum, the events are all open to the public.

Vendors are always invited to participate in the event and whether setting up a table for their organization or business or bringing in their own food truck, information can be obtained by call the chamber at (580) 772-7744.

“It’s such a fun evening celebrating along with the community in just a “hanging out” atmosphere. We hear so often that citizens are looking for more entertainment ideas and this definitely fits that bill with live music, food and drink, games, and contest. We hope everyone joins us for a good time,” co-chair Lee said.

The Back-To-School Bash theme will be filled with fun school giveaways, team autographs, T-shirt giveaways and information about schools and events. A highlight will be the WDN sponsored Class Chalk Challenge.

Second through 12th grade students will be allocated sections of sidewalk surround the gazebo where they can outshine the other classes for the best designs to win a class party. All students are invited to participate based on what grade they will be at the start of the August school year.

“We invite kids to start talking now with fellow classmates to put together ideas for the chalk challenge. There is no doubt there will be a lot of creativity coming out of the students and we look forward to featuring their designs in the WDN. All chalk supplies will be furnished. Come hang out, create art and enjoy the music and food,” WDN publisher Phillip Reid said.
