Senior Evan Anderson may seem like a typical teenage girl, but her devotion to the things that she loves is far from average.

In her free time, Anderson enjoys riding around with her friends, Abbey Brawley, Andrea Palmer, and Jadyn Kautz. Anderson and her girls love going out to eat and watching movies.

Anderson credits these girls with keeping her healthy and in line.

“My friends are there no matter what, they are down for whatever, whenever. They check up on me and cheer me up when I need it most. My friends are a part of my family.”

As much as she enjoys hanging out with her friends, she has a passion for basketball. Anderson is the scrappiest rebounder for the Lady Blue Devils says her coach, Jana Rogers.

Anderson has played basketball for Cordell since fifth grade, developing a strong relationship with her teammates as a result.

Anderson plays alongside her best friend Andrea Palmer on the court, and the two are an inseparable pair.

“Our friendship brings another level of closeness to the entire team. Me and Andrea can bring each other up in games, and the rest of the team looks up to that. Our friendship reminds the girls to support each other and shows that some of the best friends of your life can be made through a sport.”

For Palmer, sharing the court with Anderson is a “blessing.”

“We have known one another for so long that we can communicate effortlessly. We read each other’s emotions, and hold one another accountable. She may not admit it, but she is a big leader for the team, she’s good at what she does, and very devoted.”

This year’s team is one of the tightest knit groups she has seen in her six years of playing, Anderson said.

Anderson believes this bond will help the team get through any issues they may face, and allow them come back even stronger than they were before.

For Anderson, sports are an escape from the stress of life. “Just going to practice can turn a bad day around for me, the team chemistry is a big factor in that.”

Using basketball to deal with stress is one of the reasons Anderson says she is so devoted to the game.

“I put my heart into every step.”
