Cross Country Season Ends At Regionals

Cordell’s cross country season ended Saturday at the regional competition in Waurika. Kobi Cameron, the Blue Devils’ only runner in the field, finished with one of her best times of the season at 15:26.59.

“I’m really proud of the dedication and progress that Kobi has made throughout the year,” said Cordell cross country coach Steve Smith. “There are only so many things you can control. When there are seven individual competitors in the top 16 spots in your region there’s not much you can do. That’s a very competitive field. Kobi has improved all season long and ran close to her personal best time at regionals.”

Smith said he’s looking forward to the return of two of his more experienced runners, Jayla Smith and Evan Anderson, next year. Both have struggled with injuries this season. He said the crop of nine sixth graders who joined the team this year also bode well for the future of cross country at Cordell.

“Overall we’ve had a really good season,” he said. “We missed getting to have Evan Anderson and Jayla Smith compete some of this season due to injuries. They hope to be going strong by next season. We had nine new sixth graders join the team this year, so that presents a lot of potential for the Cordell cross country team in the future.”
