Cordell native Maci Thain, who helped power her Oklahoma Freedom 10U fast-pitch softaball team to the national championship, was recognized with the All-Tournament Most Valuable Player Award last month.

The team played for the national championship in Plano, Texas, on July 14, 2019, beating the top-ranked Arkansas Elite twice to claim the title. In the first game, Oklahoma’s girls beat the undefeated Elite 8-7, forcing an “if” game, which they won 8-2 to win the tournament.

The Oklahoma Freedom, which is comprised of 11 girls from Walters, Cache, Elgin, Fletcher, Geronimo, and Cordell, Oklahoma and Wichita, Texas, racked up an impressive 52-10 record on the season and claimed the United States Specialty Sports Association Oklahoma State Championship during their championship run.
