Cordell’s golfers took to the links last week, opening both the boys’ and girls’ season at the annual Burns Flat-Dill City tournament.

The Blue Devil boys won their tournament on Thursday, with Raydon Kuehne leading the charge. Kuehne took the individual champioship by a whopping 12 strokes, shooting 82. Carsen Nickel and Gaige Keister tied for seventh and eighth at 107. Parker Johnson shot 110 and Tugger Selman 115 to complete the team effort.

“I was happy with our first time out,” said head coach Brandon Gallagher. “Raydon shot 82 to win by 12 strokes. Carsen and Gaige shot 107, Parker 110, and Tugger 115. Hopefully we will be able to put some work in and keep improving.”

On the girls’ side, with only two golfers Cordell wasn’t in the competition for the team title, but Makenzie Hougland shot 107 to claim 10th individually. Abby Priebe, who missed last season with a back injury, shot 130.

“I thought for our first tourney we played pretty well,” Gallagher said. “Abby missed a whole year with back surgery, so this is her first time back. Kenzie played well and had a chance to shoot lower. It was a fun day.”
