The Cordell Blue Devils, Merritt Oilers, and the Watonga Eagles battled fiercely in a three way scrimmage Friday night, testing how well they will do in actual gameplay.
The scrimmage started as a play by play, with the offensive team switching out after six plays. This continued until each team had the opportunity to run 12 plays on both offensive and defensive sides. The teams then began running 10 plays and a drive, before switching with another team and returning to the sideline for a chat with the coach.
Head coach Zane Trammell told The Beacon he’s proud of how hard the boys played, crediting the seniors with setting the tone for the rest of the team. Trammell also highlighted the senior’s performance during gameplay.
He said, “I told the boys that we can fix our “x’s and o’s” if we had a busted play, but I didn’t want to have to re-evaluate because of our effort or toughness.”
Senior Gavin Jasmer, who plays offensive tackle and defensive end, reported the scrimmage going well, with his team pushing through any setbacks.
Jasmer, along with his teammates have high hopes for the season opener which will be held in Sayre at 7:00 pm on the 28th of August. The Cordell Cheerleaders encourage everyone to wear tie dye to the Sayre game to show your spirit while supporting our Blue Devil Boys.
