GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Cordell Lady Blue Devils split two games last week, softening the blow of Tuesday’s loss with a homecoming triumph Friday evening.

“We had a great team win on Friday. It was probably the best shooting percentage game we’ve had all year. It was a fun game, the girls kept their composure and played confidently. I was very proud of all of them for working together, having fun and showing Sayre what we could do,” said Head Coach Jana Rogers.

Rogers was satisfied with the girls’ turnaround, and hopes they will keep up the hard work.

“All in all, from Tuesday to Friday, I saw two totally different teams. I hope I see Friday’s team from now on,” said Rogers.

Tues, Jan. 12

Cordell: 23, Carnegie: 56

The Lady Blue Devils started off the week with a 33-point loss to Carnegie’s Lady Wildcats. Bailey Troub led the team, scoring 13 points for the team, nine of them from free throws.

The Lady Devils played a close game Friday, beating the Sayre Lady Eagles by just one point. Senior Evan Anderson and Junior Renee Javorsky were the team’s top scorers, each with 10 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

The Cordell Blue Devil Basketball team followed up last week’s 2-point loss with a 9-point win, both games being hard-fought until the very end.

Head Coach Brandon Gallagher complimented how strong and resilient the team has been, even in the face of defeat.

“We just have to keep working and playing hard. I really like how we are competing and battling every game,” said Gallagher.

WRESTLING

Jan. 14-15

Western Conference Tournament in Kingfisher

“To say the least it has been an interesting year. There have been many postponements, cancellations, and other interruptions that have made this season challenging. That being said, we finally had an opportunity to get on the mat and try to build some momentum going into the last half of the season,” coach Dillon Ball said “I was very proud of how our young men competed this past weekend. We were short on numbers, but those that did wrestle gave great effort. We have a very young group of JH wrestlers this year and they are showing great promise for the future. Our high school guys wrestled hard as well. The junior high wrestlers who competed were Jackson Eldridge at 106, Tucker Priebe at 170, and Samuel Lindsey at 285. The high school wrestlers who competed were Colton Lowry at 120, Billy Scott at 132, and Michael Rennison at 170.”

THIS WEEK’S GAMES: Both the girls and boys teams will play in the Tri-County Tournament starting Thursday at Hobart.

The girls play at 3 p.m. Thursday vs Leedy, and the boys at 4:20, also against Leedy.

Both Cordell teams take on Hobart on Friday, the girls at 5:40 and the boys at 7 p.m.

The girls and boys both take on Elk City on Saturday, starting at 3 p.m. for the girls and 4:20 for the boys.
