The Cordell Blue Devils hosted the Tigers of Mangum for their final game of the 2019 season. The young Blue Devils team fought hard during the first quarter and into the second, but experience and a much deeper bench collected their toll and the Blue Devils fell, 56-7.

Cordell had a couple of first-half highlights, including an impressive drive to open the game. The Devils marched downfield and penetrated the Tigers’ red zone, but were unfortunately unable to come away with a score. Following a Mangum score, Dane Corbin received the kick-off and run the ball back for an early touchdown, Cordell’s only score of the game.

Head coach Zane Trammell said he was proud of his team’s effort and is already looking forward to next season.

“I was super proud of how our boys came out of the locker room ready to play,” he said. “They went head to head against a really talented mangum team for a quarter and a half. Even once things started going down hill, they continued to play hard and compete, which is something that not all teams do once they realize they are out of playoff contention. We had an extremely young team this year, on top of some key injuries, but I was proud of the young men that had to step up and fill roles and play new positions, because that it not an easy thing to do. With the majority of the team returning, and adding a few young ones, I have high hopes for next year. The kids that aren’t part of another sport will be with me in the offseason preparing for next season.”
