Despite a valiant effort in front of a packed home crowd last Thursday, the Cordell Blue Devils ended up on the short side of a lopsided scoreboard and fell to the Bombers of Frederick 42-0.

The Blue Devils were outsized at just about every position on the field and just couldn’t get the offense moving against the bigger, more experienced Frederick team. The Bombers dominated both the offensive and defensive line play, keeping the Blue Devils on their heels for the majority of the game.

Head coach Zane Trammell praised his boys for their grit and commitment in the face of a great deal of adversity during the season.

“This is something that generally comes with being the smaller and younger team every week, but we are trying to instill mental toughness along with physical toughness. So we aren’t allowing that to be an excuse or a crutch,” he said. “I’m proud of how hard they are playing. A lot of teams would have already jumped ship, considering all of the adversity that we’ve been through and the season that we have had, but not this group of young men. They are practicing and playing with character, integrity, and pride.

Generally, we are in the right position to have the opportunity to make the play, but our physicality and aggressiveness are keeping us from getting the job done. That was a major factor in Thursday’s game, along with the entire season.”

The Blue Devils travel to Hobart this week to take on the Bearcats Friday. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Cordell’s boys then have a bye week before wrapping up their season with senior night at home against Mangum.
