An already banged-up Blue Devils team took the field Friday night in Cordell to face Mooreland in the 2019 season opener. Despite a strong defense that managed to force six turnovers against the visiting Bearcats, the Blue Devils came up short on the night, losing 29-0.

The Blue Devils defense harried the Bearcats for three and a half quarters of play, giving up very little in the way of yards and causing six turnovers. Unfortunately, the offense wasn’t able to convert those turnovers into scores.

“We were not a healthy team when the game started, considering our starting quarterback and safety Cade Walker and starting middle linebacker and fullback Shane Perkins had been injured during our Apache scrimmage,” Trammell said. “But we lost five additional players throughout the game. Defensively, we created turnovers, but we allowed too many yards. Offensively, we put ourselves inside the red zone three times, but never managed to score. We have to do a better job of taking advantage of opportunities.”

The Blue Devils next take the field on the road at Watonga. The game is scheduled for kick-off at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2019.
