Obituary: Barbara Sue Fite 74, of Hobart
Body

Barbara Sue (Galloway) Fite was promoted to glory on Nov. 28, 2019, after a courageous battle.

She was born Nov. 4, 1945, in Sentinel to Standley and Daphene (Brock) Galloway. Barbara graduated from her beloved Rocky High in 1963. One of her favorite memories was cheering on the ‘63 state championship Rocky Buffalo basketball team. Her friendship with her Rocky classmates was a strong bond that continued throughout the years with trips and slumber parties.

Barbara worked as a teacher’s assistant and bus driver for Hobart Public Schools. Barbara was also a favorite at Hobart Walmart, as people would stand in her line just to be able to visit with her. She was known by many as “Ma” and “Barbs.” She spoiled the elementary children with snacks and popsicles. Even when not well, she made it to as many ball games as possible, including the Lady Cat state softball tournament in Shawnee this year. Barbara was known for her giving heart and she lived by the saying, “always stay humble and kind.” She loved all of God’s creatures, never meeting an animal she didn’t like.

Barbara is survived by three children, Jay Fite of Oklahoma City, Joy Porter and husband Brett of Hobart, and Jeff Fite and wife Melissa of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Tyler Fite of Sarasota, Fla., Taylor (Fite) McCurtain and husband Miles of Sarasota, Fla., Reese Porter of Hobart, Rowyn Fite of Eakly, and Pearse Porter of Hobart; sister Brenda Bass of Cordell; brother Time Galloway and wife Jackie of Rocky; and honorary grandkids Stran and Silver Scales.

She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson Teague Allen Porter; and brother-in-law Larry Bass.

Thank you to all my friends and neighbors for your prayers, support, cards, and food. Barbara loved all the water walkers and was the best sister and friend anyone could have. Love all of you, Brenda Bass.
