Lynda Carol Watkins

Lynda Carol Watkins 76, Hobart, OK died Saturday, Nov 28, 2020 in Oklahoma City, OK of an illness unrelated to Covid-19.

She was born Aug. 16, 1944, to Donna Maxine Burchfiel in Mt. View Ok and raised by Charles Edgar Burchfiel and Maxine in Pauls Valley, OK. Lynda graduated from Paul’s Valley High School. Lynda graduated East Central University with a teaching degree in education and received a Masters degree in Education and Learning Disabilities from Witchita State University before embarking on a 35 year teaching career in Southwest Kansas and Western Oklahoma. Lynda retired from teaching at the Hobart Middle School and continued to participate in the activities of the Retried Teachers Association. When moving to Cordell in 1979 ,Lynda spend several years helping run the family newspaper business as an advertising manager at the Cordell Beacon. Lynda raised two sons,

Lynda raised two sons, Bill Hess and Bob Hess.

She married Kenny Watkins August 28, 1987. They lived in Hobart and both worked for the Hobart Public Schools.

Survivors include:Son: Bill Hess, Pueblo, CO; Son: Robert Hess and wife, Mary, Lake Forest IL; Five grandchildren: Corey Hess (and Molly) of Oklahoma City, Cameron Hess (and Marion Gui), & Sydney Hess, Preston Hess, Maren Hess and a great-grandson Tristan Hess.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenny Watkins, her father, Charles Edgar Burchfiel, her mother Donna Maxine Burchfiel.

Because of safety concerns surrounding Covid-19, there will not be a church service. There will be a visitation on Friday December 4th from 9-5 and Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home in Hobart. Due to current restrictions, no family will be present at the visitation. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 5th at Lawn view Cemetery in Cordell, OK. The family requests that those who choose to attend, please practice social distancing and wear a mask.

Donations in Lynda’s honor may be made to the Hobart Educational Enrichment Foundation at Hobart Public Schools or the First Christian Church.
