Helen Marie Best was born July 8, 1935, on the family farm southeast of Cordell, to John Leo and Viola Brubaker Best.

Helen graduated from Cordell High School in 1953. She married Kenneth Lee Fleming Dec. 18, 1954. They had three children: Roger, Rhonda, and Dean.

She and Kenneth celebrated 25 years of marriage in 1979, before Kenneth passed away Sept. 13, 1980, from cancer.

She married Bob Sheik on April 20, 1985. Together they shared 33 years of their lives on the family farm south of Weatherford before Bob passed away Feb. 5, 2018. She enjoyed being part of Bob’s family and stepmom to his four sons.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Sheik; parents John and Viola Best; sisters, Pauline Edmunds and Carolyn Heath; and brother John Best.

She is survived by her son Roger Lee Fleming and wife Leslie of Weatherford; daughter Rhonda Kay O’Meara and husband Mike of Yukon; son William Dean Fleming and wife Denise of Weatherford; grandchildren Amber Clear of Weatherford, Matthew Fleming and wife Kodi of Weatherford, Jenny Lawlis and husband Roger of Oklahoma City, Susan Cleburn and husband Gerrod of Carrollton, Texas, David Hinds of Dallas, Texas, DaLynn Brinkley and husband Brent of Arapaho, Brooke Fleming of Weatherford, Chance Fleming and wife Chaillie of Yukon; great-grandchildren Jackson and Stone Clear, Tayte and Josey Fleming, Abigail and Tyson Cleburn, Kylee, Preslee and Kynlee Brinkley, and Ellis Fleming. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Larry Heath of Cordell.

Helen had been a resident of Weatherwood Assisted Living for almost a year, before being moved to the memory care unit in April. She suddenly fell ill, and passed away at the Weatherford Hospital on June 19, 2020. She would have celebrated her 85th birthday in just a few weeks.

Donations on Helen’s behalf to the Alzheimer’s Association Oklahoma Chapter would be appreciated.
