Dickie LaWayne Elston, of Rocky, Oklahoma, passed away on December 16, 2023, surrounded by his family.

Dickie was born on May 13, 1949, to Clifford & Betty (Diffendaffer) Elston, in Rocky, Oklahoma.

He started school at Rocky then he attended school at Cordell, where he graduated in 1967.

Dickie married the love of his life, Dwan Holman, on April 21, 1972, in Rocky, OK. Together they had 3 beautiful girls, Jackie Ellen, Jessie Brooke, and Casey Denice.

When Dickie and Jackie were younger they had their own lawn mowing business with bicycles as their form of transportation until they were old enough to start working for Pucketts in Cordell.

He then went to work for the Cordell Beacon in 1967, where he worked until retiring in 2011.

Dickie worked for Dwan in his retirement at Granna’s in Bessie, OK for a couple years.

Dickie’s love for his family was truly admirable. He took great pride in showing up for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Dickie and Dwan lived in Cordell for 9 years and then in 1981 moved to Dickie’s grandfather’s farm in Rocky where he lived until his death.

Dickie’s favorite things about living in the country were raising quail and watching the deer in the yard. Dickie loved traveling to his grandchildren’s sports events where he was known for giving a $1 for every home run and spoiling them at the concession stand.

God blessed Dickie with 7 great grandkids that he spent many hours watching play outside in the front yard. He even continued to travel to ballgames and continued his tradition of a $1 for each home run.

Dickie and Dwan loved to travel, with Colorado being his favorite. Even when Dickie’s health started to decline he still loved to travel even if it was only a day trip to Quartz Mountain or The Wichita Mountain WildLife Refuge.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
