Clara Schmidt

Funeral Services for Clara Schmidt, 95, Corn resident were held at10:00 a.m., Monday, Dec. 30, 2019, in the Herold Mennonite Church officiated by her grandson, Steve Pearson. Burial will conclude in the Herold Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.

Clara (Horn) Schmidt was born Jan. 28, 1924, to Herman and Margaret (Klaassen) Horn on a farm near Corn and passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2019 in the Corn Heritage Village in Corn.

She was raised in Corn and attended Greenfield Grammar School and later Corn Bible Academy. She loved the outdoors and spending time with her dad and playing with her nearby cousins.

She accepted the Lord as her personal savior when she was 16 years old; she regularly shared her faith throughout her life.

She married Alfred Schmidt on April 20, 1944 and they were blessed with three daughters, Wandie, Norma Jean and Rosie. They farmed southeast of Cordell for most of their married life. After the farm was sold they retired and enjoyed some special trips together. Alfred preceded her in death and she moved to the Village Apartments in Cordell and then on to the Corn Nursing Home.

Clara was a very social person and made friends easily and needed to be with other people. She loved teaching children at home, in Bible schools, camps and school; she always enjoyed music as well. The family sang and played instruments together and in her later years she enjoyed playing the piano for church and various singing groups as well.

She enjoyed playing games with her friends; she had a long prayer list which she prayed for daily.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years; her parents; brother Ted; and her grandson, Zachary Stockton.

She is survived by her three daughters, Wandie Pearson and her husband, Rev. Rob, Norma Maitia and husband, Douglas, Rosie Simmons and husband, Mitch.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Tim Pearson and wife, Sonya, and their daughters, Nevaeh and Gesna, Steve Pearson and wife, Tiffany, Katie Christiansen and her husband Mark and their sons, Doug and Wesley, Jennifer Stockton, Jessica Leatham and husband, Doug and their children, Sean and Rory; two sisters in law, Doris Horn and Bernice Schmidt; step-granddaughter, Cassandra Simmons; numerous nieces and nephews and close friends.
