Charlotte Janet Newberry, 80, of Burns Flat, was born on Sept. 17, 1939, in Clinton, to Charles Calvin and Vinita Corene (Ward) Holcomb. She went to walk the streets of gold with her Savior on May 15, 2020, in Burns Flat, surrounded by her loving family.

Charlotte graduated from Lone Wolf High School, salutatorian of the class of 1957. She then attended beauty school at Southwestern for one year. Charlotte married her best friend and sweetheart, Jimmie Paul Newberry on March 12, 1959, at the Burns Flat First Baptist Church in Burns Flat. He proceeded her in death on Feb. 4, 2008. She worked at Bertha’s Red Carpet, a beauty shop, and retired from Halliburton in 1997.

Charlotte had a dream of having a wonderful loving husband and a large family with lots of children and grandchildren to love. If you asked her, all her dreams came true. She was looking forward to being united with Jimmie in Heaven and she praised the Lord for eternity.

She enjoyed collecting dolls, rocks, pigs, knick knacks, bringing gifts to friends and loved ones, being a storyteller, but most of all she loved her family and the time she had with them. You could find Charlotte out feeding her cows and pigs, because this is how she loved spending her days.

Charlotte was an active member of the Burns Flat First Baptist church where she started teaching Sunday School when she was sixteen and a junior in High School. She loved teaching her Sunday School class, “Charlotte’s Angels,” and keeping nursery. In later years, as she discovered texting, she loved her “prayer warriors” group.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2020, for immediate family only at the North Burns Cemetery in Burns Flat. Rev. Jim Roebuck will officiate. Interment will be at North Burns Cemetery, in Burns Flat. Services have been entrusted to the care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City.
