Wanita Sawatzky, 98, Cordell resident will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 3, 2021 in the Herold Mennonite Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Kevin Creed and Randy Sawatzky and under the direction of the Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.

Wanita Elfreda Sawatzky was born May 10, 1923 to Fred and Karolina (Steigman) Stehr northwest of Bessie, OK and she passed away Sunday, August 29, 2021 in her Cordell home.

Wanita was raised in Bessie and has lived on the same farm her entire life. She attended the Sunflower School. She married Carl Sawatzky on December 30, 1942 in Bessie. She worked in Clinton at a laundry mat and Kelly’s Paint Store as well as being a full time farmer’s wife and fulfilling all those responsibilities.

She was a member of the Herold Mennonite Church; she was very involved with the Women in Mission and enjoyed quilting; she loved to embroidery, she was very competitive and won many ribbons and accomplishments exhibiting her good at the County Fair.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Louis Stehr, (twins) Edwin Stehr and Alvin Stehr and Bennie Stehr; half-sister, Deloris Schapansky and a stepbrother Aldean Ernst.

She is survived by daughter, Karlene Grosz and husband, Fred, Edmond, OK; two sons, Jack Sawatzky and wife, Karen, Cordell and Randy Sawatzky and wife, Kandi, Buhler, KS; step brother, Norman Stehr, Clinton and Fred Stehr, Clinton.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and one on the way.

The family is requesting those wanting to give a memorial contribution, please give it to the Herold Mennonite Church.
