Criminal Justice Reforms a Tight Balance of Safety and Fairness

Much has been written about, discussed and changed in law in recent years surrounding the issue of criminal justice reform in Oklahoma. With the highest incarceration rate in the world and a prison system that is now at 113 percent of capacity and two-thirds understaffed, it’s past time we address this issue. But, it’s much more complicated than many people think at first glance.

First and foremost is keeping our populace safe. We have to ensure people who commit violent, heinous crimes are kept away from free society. At the same time, we have to look at what actually constitutes a violent crime.
