Cordell’s city administrator J.C. Moser was terminated from his position during a city council meeting on Monday, June 21.

The discussion of Moser’s employment took place during the executive session portion of that night’s meeting.

As public attendees of the meeting waited outside for the council to finish their executive session deliberations, city office worker Lawana Price and city clerk Christie Cherry were individually called into the meeting.

Upon exiting the execu tive session, Mayor Jerry Beech asked if a member would make a motion concerning Moser’s employment.

City council member Earlene Smith made the first motion to terminate Moser followed by a second from council member Steve McLaughlin.

All present city council members then unanimously voted to terminate Moser. Both Smith and McLaughlin declined to comment.

At the moment it seems no decision has been made on how to fill the role, and city hall said it was too early to tell as it was still being discussed as of press time.

The mayor was unable to be reached for comment.

Once the council had passed their vote to terminate Moser, he and his wife left the meeting.

We were unable to reach Moser for comment.

One of Cordell’s newest city council members, Sheri Parsons, seemed to hesitate a bit and shake her head before voting yes on the motion.

“It was unfortunate and that’s never something that anybody in any position wants to be in,” Parsons said. “Even if I had been [on the council] 20 years, it would have been difficult… It was very unfortunate and I wish J.C. the best.”
