Dawson Willard of Cordell wins CKEnergy scholarship

Hard work has paid off for several high school juniors. The winners earned a $1,000 scholarship and an iPad and the runners up earned a $500 scholarship through CKenergy’s Youth Tour Contest.

Lakin Green of Weatherford High School, Gabrielle Miles of Hobart High School, Isaiah Thiessen of Corn Bible Academy, and Seth Spady of Hinton High School took top honors in the CKEC Youth Tour Contest.

Lakin is the daughter of Bobby and Robin Green of Weatherford. Gabbi is the daughter of Justin and Tracy Miles of Gotebo. Isaiah is the son of Aaron and Carillion Thiessen of Cordell and Seth is the son of Ken and Kimberlee Spady of Hinton.

Runners-up in the contest were McKaegan Gregory of Binger-Oney High School, Brett Griffith of Arapaho-Butler High School, Isabel Sutteer of Riverside Indian School and Dawson Willard of Cordell High School. The runners-up receive a $500 scholarship.

In order to reach the finals, the contestants had to be one of the eight highest scores on a written letter/essay. Contestants were required to write and a letter of 500 – 750 words in length. The letter can be to anyone of importance (parent, preacher, elected official, teacher etc.) on a topic that is important to them. The contest concluded with each student presenting their letter in speech form through a video. Three judges scored the students' videos on speaking ability, pacing, poise, voice, enunciation, and projection.

The Oklahoma Association of Electric Cooperatives has been an active sponsor of the Youth Tour since 1963. More than 3,500 students have been sponsored on trips to the nation’s capital in the last fifty-six years. CKenergy is proud to offer the Youth Tour Program to our area students.
