In what would seem to be in direct opposition of the will of many, if not most, Cordell residents, their elected representatives voted Monday night to change the ordinance concerning the Cordell Police Chief and City Marshal positions.

Before the vote at the May 7, 2018, meeting, City Code 1-7-1-4-B stated the individual who was elected as City Marshal would also serve as the Police Chief.

The new Ordinance states the individual elected “may” serve as the Chief of Police.

He must first, however, be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council.

Mayor Bob Plummer has been actively pursuing such a change since shortly after his election.
