The first round of vaccines hit Washita County Monday, as Dr. Bob Abernathy and other hospital workers received doses.

Oklahoma State Department of Health staff administered Abernathy’s shot, while Cordell Memorial Hospital’s Christy Harris adminstered the others.

While the first doses of the vaccine were given, COVID-19 numbers continued to rise, according to the state health department.

The total number testing positive in the county is now 660. It was 585 a week ago, an increase of 75 over last week. Two weeks ago the number was 517 was and three weeks ago it stood at 437.

Of the 660 cases, 537 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Cordell has reported 195 positive cases, the most in the county. Of those, 165 have recovered. Last week there were 178 positive cases. Of those, 152 had recovered.

Burns Flat, which had 72 a week ago, now has 87 positive cases, the third highest number in the county. Of those, 63 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Burns Flat also has one of the reported deaths in the county.

Canute has 94, up from the 87 last week and has the second highest number in the county. Sentinel has 74. Of the 94 in Canute, 80 have recovered and 60 have recovered in Sentinel.

Other communities in Washita County reporting positive cases and the number recovered include: Dill City 36 and 25; Rocky 23 and 22.

Statewide as of Monday, 263,434 have tested positive, there have been 2,218 deaths and 224,672 who have recovered. Active cases stand at ¬36,544 the OSDH said.

Last week there were 239,767 testing positive, there had been 2,072 deaths and 202,532 had recovered. There were 35,163 active cases a week ago.

This week on Monday, the OSDH reported 2,596 new positive cases confirmed and 6 additional deaths.

The OSDH reports more than 2.1 million have tested negative.
