The number of people in Washita County testing positive for COVID-19 has risen significantly during the past week, the Oklahoma State Health Department reported. The total number testing positive in the county is now 128 and a week ago and it stood at 101, an increase of 27 over a week ago. Two weeks ago the number was 86 and three weeks ago it was 64.

Still, as of Monday of this week, no deaths attributed to the virus have been reported in Washita County, according to the OSDH. On Aug. 21, the number of people testing positive in Washita County stood at 37, meaning the number has jumped by 91 in about the last seven weeks or so. Of the 128 positive cases, 89 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Cordell has reported 32 positive cases, the most in the county. Of those, 23 have recovered. Last week there were 27 positive cases. Of those, 19 had recovered. Burns Flat, which had 14 a week ago, now has 23, the second highest number in the county. Of those, 14 have recovered, OSDH said. Canute now has 20 and Sentinel has 16. Each had 15 last week. Of the 20 in Canute, 10 have recovered and 13 have recovered in Sentinel. Other communities in Washita County reporting positive cases and the number recovered include: Dill City 9 and 9; Rocky 2 and 1.

Statewide the number of positive cases has climbed to 101,184. Last week the number was 91,982. There have been 1,104 who have died in Oklahoma due to the virus. A week ago, 1,055 deaths had been attributed to the virus, the OSDH said.

The number of positives was 70,223 four weeks ago with 853 reported deaths caused by the virus at that time, according to OSDH.

As of Monday, there were 13,816 active cases throughout the state and that number was 12,772 at the same time a week ago.
