The Cordell Lady Blue devils played four district games on the road last week, two against the Merritt Oilers and two against the Mangum Lady Tigers.

The Lady Devils fought against Merritt on Monday night, playing two games back to back.

Morale amongst the players was incredibly high during the first game. Head Coach Whitney Misak commended the girls on their spirits, telling The Beacon, “this was the first time we had had high spirits for a whole game.” She said, “we still didn’t come out on top, but if we could do that more often we could get somewhere.”

Despite the good spirits the girls lost both games, the first game with a score of 9-3 and the latter 18-1.

Tuesday’s games were played on the road against Mangum.

The Cordell Lady Blue Devils started the game off strong. Misak told The Beacon, “The first three innings of the first game were probably the best innings of the season.” She said, “ we were 3-1 against the number two team in our district, but unfortunately we just couldn’t keep it.”

Misak applauded pitchers, Tatym King and Ellie Willard for stepping up after starting pitcher Andrea Palmer sustained an injury to her hand in the second game played Monday night.

The final scores for the Mangum games were, 11-1 in the first and 18-0 in the second.
