Letter To The Editor

Dear Editor,

May I take a moment to comment about a column in the June 3 edition of The Beacon?

Shailly Gupta Barnes wrote a piece entitled “Working People Are Bearing The Cost Of The Pandemic.”

Ms. Barnes says “... our lawmakers haven’t met the overwhelming need to focus on the poor and frontline workers.”

Working people are bearing the cost of the pandemic, but the government has been trying to help those affected. The federal government has borrowed more than four trillion dollars and has issued checks to more than 100 million Americans to aid the nation’s recovery from the pandemic. A few of these folks were probably wealthy, but the vast majority are ordinary hard working American citizens.

The point of Ms. Barnes’ piece was the last two paragraphs of her article. Among other things she wants to cancel rent and guarantee incomes for all. Free this. Free that. Tax the rich. Her argument is not really about rich or poor. It is about power. She thinks others have it. She wants it. She would prefer to tax the rich until there are none and then have everyone completely dependent upon on all powerful government.

She wants to “organize our Society differently.” I presume she wants to be in the elite group doing the organizing rather than the group being reorganized.
