Canute Public Schools recently announced the honorees for Teacher of the Year. Lana Merz was named Elementary Teacher of the year and Cristi Williams was named Junior High/High School and District Teacher of the Year.
Merz has deep roots in Canute, having attended and graduated high school there before attending Saint Gregory’s College and earning her B.S. in education at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. She has been teaching sixth grade at Canute Elementary for her entire 32-year career in public education.
Williams, also a SWOSU graduate, has been teaching in the area for several years. She has been teaching history at Canute for four years.
