Washita County Farm Bureau Hosts Annual Sixth Grade Ag Day

Sixth grade classes from Burns Flat/Dill City, Canute, Cordell and Sentinel experienced hands-on educational activities to learn about agriculture in Washita County at the Washita County Farm Bureau Ag Day held in November. Volunteers from all walks of agriculture shared their personal experiences in agriculture production.

Students participated in the following workshop: Meat Science, Keith Schneberger, Keith’s Butcher Shop; Making Bread, Edie Brown, Washita County Conservation District; Farm Finances, Brad Babek, Bank of Western Oklahoma; Soil Science, Mark Benton and Kelsey Lainhart, Washita County Conservation District; Farm Equipment and Safety, Jared Wedel, farmer/rancher; Grinding Wheat, Jimmy Piercey, ag producer/Washita County Farm Bureau Board; and Dirt Babies, Lowayne Piercey and Charlene Thornbrough, Women’s Leadership Committee.

The event was organized by Julie Kliewer, Washita County Farm Bureau administrative assistant. Emceeing the event was Larry Peck, Washita County Farm Bureau Board president. Val Farris and Brooke Dodd of From Scratch Bakery provided lunch for all the students. Others in attendance were Kirby Smith, liaison for Lt. Governor Pinnell. Craig Kliewer, farmer/ rancher, assisted in setting up tables and chairs for the event. Mary Peck and Tyler Peck, Farm Bureau members, took photos during the day.
