Western Technology Center HOSA members recently attended Oklahoma State HOSA Fall Leadership Conference in Norman. The conference is designed to empower and support future health professionals with skills and real-world applications for leading others and succeeding in the workforce.
Forty-two WTC students attended the conference representing the Sayre and Burns Flat Health Programs, Weatherford’s Dental Assisting Program, and Burns Flat Biomedical Academy.
The day started with a great motivational speaker, Kelly Barnes, engaging students with practical tips on how to serve the students, schools, and communities around them. He also empowered students to step out of their comfort zones, and network with other future leaders to build helpful relationships with other like-minded individuals from around the state.
A highlight of the day was the State HOSA Officer elections. WTC has been honored for the past year in having Chase Dewees from Clinton representing the school at the state and national level as the State HOSA Parliamentarian. He now passes the torch as Western Technology Center is honored to announce Kyda Gossen from Cordell as the new State HOSA President.
Kyda will have the opportunity to represent WTC and HOSA as she travels across this great state and nation sharing the exciting opportunities that HOSA offers. She has already journeyed to Stillwater for State Officer Leadership training. She, along with the newly formed ten-member team, met for leadership development and event planning for the year.
Kyda’s heart belongs to community service, and she feels that she is to serve the people of Oklahoma. She plans to start a tree planting initiative across Oklahoma in honor of cancer patients. Trees require a strong foundation to grow. With the foundations in cancer research, a cure is just over the horizon. As we race to a cure, human growth and prosperity is represented perfectly by the majestic symbol of a fully-grown tree; large, open, beautiful and full of life. When people look upon the trees that are planted, we can envision the glorious day when cancer is no longer a concern, and human life amazingly exemplifies achievement and growth.
