The Cordell Beacon, in partnership with Great Plains Bank of Cordell, is pleased to announce the opening of nominations for the Second Annual Cordell Person of the Year. The award, created by The Beacon and Great Plains Bank last year, is intended to recognize the Cordell-area person who had the greatest positive contributions to the greater Cordell community during the past year.

Last year’s recipient of the Person of the Year Award was R.B. Mathis, a long-time Cordlel resident and Baptist Minister who ministered at the First Baptist Church in Cordell as well as in a number of other communities in Oklahoma.

“We are very pleased to be partnering up again with Great Plains Bank to present this award,” said Cordell Beacon managing editor Bob Henline. “It’s great to be able to highlight the people who are working to make our community a better place for us all. Beyond selecting the recipient, though, it’s also great to read the nominations as they come in. There are so many people who do so many great things here, it’s incredible to read about all of the things being done in this community.”

To submit a nominee for Person of the Year, email the name of the person with an explanation of why they should be chosen as Cordell’s Person of the Year to editor@cordellbeacon.com before 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019. The recipient of the 2020 Person of the Year award will be announced in January and presented with the Great Plains Bank award.
