Modern Homemakers met at the home of Karen Turner at 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 5, 2019.
Karen Turner served BBQ sloppy joes, cole slaw, chips, pudding fruit salad, and strawberry shortcake for dessert.
President Paula Stafford called the meeting to order with members saluting the flag. Louise Taylor read two poems that she wrote, Fourth of July and August. Karen Turner gave the devotional from the book Jesus Always. Karen Wedel gave the thought of the day, the heart that chooses joy.
Paula Stafford called roll by asking members to name an item that they will be bringing to the Washita County Free Fair. Those in attendance were Louise Taylor, Karen Turner, Paula Stafford, Becky Sander, Karen Wedel, Becky Snow, Brenda Bonham, and Crystal Webb.
Secretary Becky Sander read the minutes from the previous month’s meeting. They were approved as read. Karen Turner gave the treasurer’s report. Becky Snow read the parliamentarian point.
The program for this meeting was the discussion of items for the fair. The cultural arts items were presented by Karen Turner, she showed pictures of her and her twin sister in the third or fourth grade and a picture of Humpty Dumpty. Paula Stafford showed pictures of her riding the Pioneer Flier at the Red River. Brenda Bonham brought a six pence and showed it to members.
The next month’s meeting will be hosted by Brenda Bonham at the OSU Extension Center in Cordell at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, 2019.
