A Cordell man is facing life in prison following his arrest last week on three felony child sex charges.
George Heys, 56, was arrested Sept. 17, 2019, and formally charged with the crimes two days later. The charges include one felony count of rape by instrumentation and two felony counts of lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16, for incidents which allegedly occurred between Dec. 31, 2018, and Sept. 16, 2019, between Heys and a 13-yearold girl.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Special Agent Dannie Sanders, the criminal sexual activity between Heys and the victim began on or around Dec. 31, 2018, when the victim and some of her friends went to Heys’ apartment. While at the apartment, Sanders wrote, Heys provided wine cooler to the victim, who became intoxicated.
After becoming intoxicated, the victim went into Heys’ bedroom to play on her phone. Some time later, the affidavit read, Heys joined the victim in the bedroom and initiated sexual contact with her. Heys and the victim reportedly engaged in sexually explicit communication by text message after the initial crime.
Sanders also reported a second incident, which occurred at a later date, in which the victim returned to Heys’ apartment. During that incident, Sanders wrote, the victim allowed Heys to perform a sex act upon her in exchange for cigarettes, cigars, and a lighter.
The crimes were reported to the Cordell Police Department Aug. 29, 2019, and then immediately turned over to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. If convicted, Heys could be sentenced to imprisonment for five years to life without the possibility of parole for the rape by instrumentation charge and between three and 20 years for each of the lewd or indecent acts to a child under 16 charges.
