First Dispensary Opening Soon In Cordell

Cordell’s first legal marijuana dispensary is just about ready to open. Dazed and Confused, the first dispensary in Cordell to receive an Oklahoma license, should be open for business within the next two weeks, said owner Jesse Bynum.

Bynum and his wife, Alicia, said they decided to open the dispensary to help provide an alternative to opioid pain medications.

“I’m a big believer in CBD,” Bynum said. “I think this is a wonderful alternative to opioid pain medication.”

One of the obstacles facing small dispensaries, Bynum said, is the difficulty in acquiring medical grade marijuana. Oklahoma law requires all medical marijuana to be grown within the state, but the major grow operations are selling out faster than they can grow the plants.

“Product is hard to come by right now,” Bynum said. “They say they’re selling out faster than they can grow.”

In order to overcome that hurdle, Bynum has also started a growing operation, but it’s southwest of Cordell toward Altus. Cordell’s ordinances don’t allow for legal grow operations within city limits.

Bynum said the only thing holding up the opening is getting the Oklahoma Department of Health permit that allows Dazed and Confused to sell edibles. He’s applied for that permit and expects it to be approved shortly.

Bynum said he expects the store to be open for business by the end of August or early September at the latest.
