Three Killed, One Injured in Wrong-Way Car Wreck; Alcohol Suspected Factor

Three men were killed and one woman seriously injured when two vehicles collided head-on on Interstate 40 west of Weatherford over the holiday weekend.

According to the report of Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Kendall Johnson, Ronald Eugene Moore, 68, of Oklahoma City was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-40 when his vehicle struck a 2018 Dodge Journey driven by Yuri Machado Perez, 48, of Delano, Calif. Moore and Perez were both pinned by the collision and both died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Yuri Canet Perez, 25, also of Delano, Calif., was a passenger in the 2018 Journey and was also killed. Sandra Louise Moore, 48, of Oklahoma City, was a passenger in Ronald Moore’s 2012 Honda Crosstour. She was transported by Air Evac to Oklahoma University Medical Center and admitted in critical condition with injuries to her arms, legs, and trunk.

According to Johnson’s report, Ronald Moore had driven at least 12 miles in the wrong direction before the collision. A Custer County deputy was in pursuit of Moore, but traveling in the proper lane and trying to stop him with emergency lights and a spotlight. The crash occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Friday, July 5, 2019. Johnson reported Moore’s condition as “DUI” and Perez’ condition as “apparently normal.”
