A 38-year-old Corn man has been charged with four domestic abuse-related crimes stemming back to a case from 2017. Kalon Kyle Hendricks was charged with two felony counts of child abuse by injury and two misdemeanor counts of domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor.
The charges date back to an incident of Aug. 9, 2017, when then-Washita County Sheriff’s deputy Scott Hill was dispatched to an address in Corn in response to a reported assault on a woman and her two daughters. According to Hill’s report, the woman said Hendricks, her husband, was drunk and belligerent because one of her daughters was repeatedly coughing and clearing her throat. The woman reportedly told Hendricks to “shut up and pass out already,” to which he responded by pushing her down and threatening to “do it again,” referring to an incident two days prior wherein he allegedly hitting her during a similar situation. The victim said she was afraid to report the assault because Hendricks had threatened her “if she didn’t keep her mouth shut.”
The victim also reported to Hill that one of her daughters had thrown a tape measure at Hendricks to distract him during the assault on their mother. Hendricks then reportedly shoved the girl into her sister, also a minor, and then struck the older daughter in the face, causing her glasses to break. The victim managed to calm Hendricks long enough to get her children away and call for assistance.
Hendricks was arrested approximately two hours later and booked into the Washita County Jail, but the case was dismissed in December 2017 because the victim had moved out of state and was not available for a preliminary hearing. The victim reportedly returned to Oklahoma and filed a domestic assault report against Hendricks in Caddo County in May 2018. Hendricks was also charged with felony domestic abuse, second or subsequent offense in Custer County in May 2019 and has a criminal record including convictions for public intoxication, petit larceny, and knowingly concealing stolen property, in addition to multiple protective orders and traffic citations.
Hendricks is currently in custody at the Custer County Jail on the May 2019 domestic abuse charge. He is being held on $150,000 bond.
