Dill Work And Play HCE June Meeting Modern Homemakers June Meeting

The Dill Work and Play HCE met at 11:00 a.m. June 12, 2019, at the Western Sizzlin in Elk City for lunch and a regular meeting. Everyone enjoyed lunch and Jane Shull called the meeting to order with the group saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

Emma Bingham gave the thought of the day, pure heart, using Psalms 51:10. Emma called roll with seven members and one guest answering with one thing they would like to do this summer. Emma read the minutes from the May meeting. Vickie Warner reported the door prize last month was a jar of salsa from McGhee Honey Farm and it was very good.

Louan Alford sent a treasurer’s report and money was collected for projects. It was reported that a donation was given to the Dill City Senior Citizens Center.

Jane went over the May-June OSU Extension newsletter. The leader lesson for June will be June 24 at 2:00 p.m. The state meeting will be held July 7 through July 9 and we have two members planning to attend.

Wilma Gaithright gave a parliamentarian report. Wilma showed a cultural art, two crocheted pot holders. Lowayne gave an update on 4-H. The county fair was discussed and entries are adding up. The fair silent auction was discussed and some articles have been donated. The county extension clubs will have a silent auction at the Washita County Fair. Vickie informed the group that Wal-Mart is having a material sale.

A report was given on the OHCE Week. Members had bake and take day, read a book, visit or call someone, visit the Cordell home, regular meeting, gave pillow cases for the children through the Hope Closet for Washita County foster children, gave a baking class for young girls, worked at the Dill City Senior Citizen Center, held a tea party at Jane’s home with six attending, and field trip.

Attending were Wilma Gaithright, Anna Prickett, Jane Shull, Darlene Moore, Vickie Warner, Emma Bingham, Lowayne Piercey, and Darlene’s daughter Jamie as a guest.

The meeting was closed with the Lord’s Prayer led by Anna.

Modern Homemakers met at the OSU Extension Center in Cordell at 6:30 p.m. on June 10, 2019.

The hostesses were Louise Taylor, Becky Sander, and Becky Snow. Becky Sander prepared a spaghetti casserole and salad, Louise provided the garlic bread, and Becky Snow made a delicious Italian cream cake for dessert.

President Paula Stafford called the meeting to order with members saluting the flag.

Louise Taylor presented a poem, Harvest. Karen Turner provided the thought for the day from the book Kisses From Katie.

Paula Stafford called roll by asking members to name one thing they would like to do this summer. Those in attendance were Louise Taylor, Karen Turner, Paula Stafford, Becky Sander, Karen Wedel, Becky Snow, Vickie Foster, and Crystal Webb.

Secretary Becky Sander read the previous month’s meeting. The minutes were approved as read. Karen Turner gave the treasurer’s report. Becky Snow gave a parliamentarian point about the secretary’s duties.

The June program was do your own thing. In lieu of a program, Louise Taylor talked to members about her harvesting trips in Montana, Kansas, Nebraska, and North Dakota. For the cultural arts item, Louise Taylor showed members pictures from her different harvesting trips.

Next month’s meeting will be hosted by Crystal Webb at the OSU Extension Office at 6:30 p.m. July 8, 2019.
