SWODA Aging Services offers respite to caregivers

November is National Family Caregivers Month. This month, caregivers are honored for their dedication in taking care of their loved ones. It is important that caregivers know they are not alone in their struggle to help their loved ones.

AREA VETERANS DAY EVENTS:

Cordell Schools: November 10th at 9:00 a.m. at the High School Auditorium. FCCLA-sponsored reception to follow in the lobby for Veteran’s and their spouses. Burns Flat-Dill City Schools: November 10th at 10:00 a.m. at Don Lemke Gym. Luncheon to follow at Burns Flat First Baptist Church.

ABSENTEE BALLOT APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE FOR 2024 ELECTION YEAR

Voters in Washita County who want absentee ballots mailed to them for elections in 2024 should apply now, County Election Board Secretary Assistant Ashton Hymer said today. Any registered voter may request absentee ballots for a specific election or for a full calendar year.

Local child shines in acting debut in hit movie Killers of the Flower Moon

With the release of the new Martin Scorsese film “Killers of the Flower Moon,” comes a time to shine for local 5-year-old Bravery Nowlin. The film was made after David Grann’s novel of the same name received widespread acclaim when it was released in 2017.

Now on the 16th day of October 2023, the County Commissioners in and for Washita County met in regular session with Chairman Goeringer calling the meeting to order.

Chairman Goeringer asked Kristen Dowell, County Clerk, for roll call. Roll call was answered by Gossen, present; Goeringer, present; Chandler, present.

The Board reviewed the minutes of the previous regular meeting. Motion made by Gossen seconded by Chandler to approve the minutes as presented.

Motion made by Gossen seconded by Chandler to approve the blanket purchase orders as filed in the County Clerk’s Office. Gossen, yes; Goeringer, yes; Chandler, yes.

The Board was notified by Kristen Dowell, County Clerk, that Washita County had not been approved this year for the lease purchase of county equipment through the Oklahoma Department of Transportation revolving fund. No action was taken.

The Board was notified that the building and zoning permit application to the City of Cordell was approved for the enclosing of the east side of the Washita County Activity Center and that concrete work should begin November 1, 2023. No action was taken.

Motion made by Gossen seconded by Goeringer to sign the Detention Transportation Claim for reimbursement to the Washita County Justice Center for the month of September. Gossen, yes; Goeringer, yes; Chandler, yes.

Motion made by Goeringer seconded by Gossen to sign Resolution No. 2023-55 authorizing and calling for the special election for the renewal of a 1.25% county sales tax to be held on January 9, 2024 allocating the sales tax as follows:

Washita County Justice Center – 40%, County General Fund – 20%, Fire Departments – 16.5%, Ambulances – 8.5%, OSU Extension/4-H Program – 7%, Senior Citizens – 5.5%, and Free Fair/Junior Livestock Show – 2.5%.
