The Cordell Chamber of Commerce invites the community to celebrate Halloween at Spook the Square on Saturday, October 31, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Cordell’s historic town square.
Spook the Square offers a fun opportunity for families, local businesses, residents, and visitors to come together for an evening of Halloween spirit and trickor- treating. Trick-or-treating is open to all ages, and anyone who would like to hand out candy is welcome to participate.
No registration is required, and participants will not be assigned specific spaces. Those interested in hosting a trunk-or-treat display may set up in the parking spaces directly in front of the Washita Theater. Participants should bring their own candy and supplies.
This year’s event will also feature a Halloween decorating contest, giving participants a chance to show off their creativity and compete for trophies in two categories: Best Trunk-or-Treat Display and Best Business & Community Display.
Three Chamber judges will begin evaluating displays at 6 p.m. All entries must be set up around the town square and ready for judging by that time. Displays will be judged on creativity, Halloween spirit, appearance, and overall effort.
Businesses located outside the square and residents who decorate at home are encouraged to participate by bringing their displays to the square. Only displays physically set up around the square will be eligible for judging and trophies. Winners will receive a trophy and, of course, Halloween bragging rights.
Off the square, Sunny’s will have goodie bags (while supplies last) and Sonic will have 50-cent corndogs.
The Chamber is also welcoming candy donations from community members who would like to help make the evening special. Those wishing to donate candy may contact the Cordell Chamber of Commerce at cordellokevents@ gmail.com. The Chamber will distribute the donated candy on behalf of those who contribute.
With families and trick-or-treaters moving around the square, everyone is reminded to use caution throughout the evening, especially when crossing streets.
Bring your Halloween spirit, show off your creativity, and help make this year’s Spook the Square the spookiest one yet!
