While most of the state’s businesses begin to reopen from the COVID-19 pandemic quarantine, the number of new confirmed cases and deaths continues to rise across Oklahoma.

As of Monday, May 11, the Oklahoma Department of Health reported a total of 4,613 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the state. Just one week ago, on May 4, the department reported 4,044 cases. The death toll has increased from 238 to 274 people since May 4.

According to a press release from District 5 Regional Director Brandie Combs, the health de partment is encouraging individuals to continue practicing the Center for Disease Control’s recommended precautions.

“Oklahoma continues to experience community spread, therefore the health department encourages everyone to take all precautions the CDC has promoted: social distancing, thorough and often hand washing, and staying at home if you are sick, over 65 years of age, and/or have an underlying health condition...COVID is not a thing of the past, it is still very relevant and it’s in our communities. Please help protect those who can’t protect themselves.”
