Washita’s COVID-19 numbers top 500

The Oklahoma State Department of Health reports that Washita County’s number of positive COVID-19 cases has continued to climb through the past week.

The total number testing positive in the county is now 517. It was 437 a week ago, an increase of 80 over last week. Two weeks ago the number was 334 and three weeks ago it stood at 274.

The number of people testing positive in Washita County in late August stood at 37.

Of the 517 cases, 398 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Cordell has reported 161 positive cases, the most in the county. Of those, 132 have recovered. Last week there were 141 positive cases. Of those, 99 had recovered.

Burns Flat, which had 55 a week ago, now has 60, the third highest number in the county. Of those, 51 have recovered, the OSDH said.

Burns Flat also has one of the reported deaths in the county.

Canute has 80, up from the 68 last week and has the second highest number in the county. Sentinel has 56. Of the 80 in Canute, 57 have recovered and 39 have recovered in Sentinel.

Other communities in Washita County reporting positive cases and the number recovered include: Dill City 22 and 15; Rocky 24 and 18.

Statewide as of Monday, 218,389 have tested positive, there have been 1,911deaths and 184,736 who have recovered. Active cases stand at 31,742 the OSDH said.

Last week there were 197,745 testing positive, there had been 1,743 deaths and 163,726 had recovered. There were 32,275 active cases a week ago.

This week on Monday, the OSDH reported 1,903 new positive cases confirmed and 15 additional deaths.

The OSDH reports more than 2 million have tested negative.
