Washita County Wreck Kills Elk City Woman

An Elk City woman died in a one-vehicle traffc collision early last Friday morning in the Burns Flat city limits, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.

State Trooper Aaron Hunter identified the woman who died as Daniell R. Raya, 31. The trooper reported Raya was the occupant in a 2015 Dodge Challenger driven by an unknown subject–pending further investigation.

According to Hunter’s report, Raya was pronounced dead at the scene by Jennifer Staggs of the State Medical Examiner’s Offce.

Hunter said the collision occurred at approximately 5:19 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25, on OK 44, .04 miles south of Webb Street in Burns Flat in Washita County.

The trooper’s investigation showed the Dodge Challenger was southbound on OK 44, left the roadway to the right, struck a culvert and overturned one-half time, coming to rest on its top.

Condition of the driver and cause of the collision are both under investigation, Hunter reported.

He said seat belts were equipped but not in use and the weather was clear, but it was dark and the area was not lighted.

Hunter, of the Custer County detachment of Troop H, was assisted by Troopers Trent Cagle and Matt Ledbetter, the Burns Flat Police Department, Washita County Sheriff’s Department and Burns Flat EMS.
