Washita County NSDAR Chapter holds November meeting

Washita Chapter NSDAR met November 11, 2024 at the Café Clinton for regular meeting. Opening the meeting was done by Regent Kay Hagerman assisted by the Chaplain.

The group participated int the following : Pledge of Allegiance, American’s Creed, Preamble to the Constitution, the group then sang “The Star Spangled Banner”, and the Salute to the Oklahoma Flag.

The President General’s Message was given by the Regent, requesting that the Daughters honor Armistice Day that was started by the United States to commemorate the end of World War 1 in 1938. She reminded the Daughters that we are committed to acknowledge and publicly recognize our Veterans’ service and sacrifice across the country. An invitation to attend the DAR Holiday Open House in Washington, D.C. on December 11, 2024 as the celebration together includes music, refreshments and festivities.

The program was given by Debbie Holland on “How to Clean Headstones” and the knowledge of how to treat different types of headstones that have corroded over time.

Committee Reports were given with those responding were: American History; American Indians; Commemorative Minute was --“The Korean War is often referred to as the forgotten war” coming in between the end of WWII and Vietnam . There were 5.7 million American men and women who served in the war and though it only lasted just over three years, but with it being “nearly 60 years later after those guns fell silent….American in uniform still maintain the peace along the 38th Parallel,…the border between North and South Korea.” Dar Good Citizens..have handed 21 packets of materials to schools.

DAR Service for Veterans- the service at the Veterans Center in Clinton had been well-received. A Quilt of Valor had been presented there also.

Members were reminded to bring one wrapped book to the meeting in December.

The meeting was closed with the Daughter’s Pledge.
