A 57-year-old Washita County man could be sentenced to life in prison after his Sept. 29, 2019, arrest in Washita County on a felony charge of assault and battery with intent to commit a felony.

Andrew Jeffrey Williams was arrested after a young woman called the Washita County Sheriff’s Office and reported that he attacked her in an effort to rape her. According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Washita County Sheriff’s deputy Kelby Peoples, the woman said she was sitting on the couch watching television when Williams began making sexual comments about the actors in the show she was watching. He then reportedly asked her if he could perform a sex act upon her. She refused the advance.

After the alleged victim refused him, Williams allegedly approached the woman and held her down on the couch by holding on to both of her upper arms while continuing to ask her to let him do it. The victim was able to break away from Williams while he was trying to raise one of his legs to get on top of her. Williams allegedly chased her around the room for a time before giving up and sitting back down.

The alleged victim’s grandmother then came into the room and the victim showed her a cell phone video of Williams asking the woman to allow the sexual act. At that point, the victim’s grandmother told Williams to leave.

Peoples, with the assistance of Custer County Sheriff’s deputy Dan Brownfield, located Williams riding a lawnmower toward Clinton near the Custer-Washita county line. He was taken into custody after being treated at Cordell Memorial Hospital for an injury he apparently sustained during the incident.

Williams was convicted in 2001 on a felony charge of indecent proposal to a child in Custer County, and on three separate felonies for failure to register or comply with registration as a sex offender, in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He also has several previous convictions for driving under the influence, theft, larceny, receiving stolen property, and violating a protective order.

If convicted, Williams could be sentenced to four years to life in prison.
