Washita County Farm Bureau holds August meeting

The Washita County Farm Bureau met July 27,2021, at 6pm in the Washita County Farm Bureau Office. The meeting started with a meal and a prayer led by Jimmy Piercey. The Women’s Committee moved to the front office and Mary Peck opened the meeting. Charlene Thornbrough led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the US and Oklahoma flags.

Lowayne Piercey gave a devotion “Don’t Be Afraid To Be Human, God Still Loves You.” And read the minutes from the last meeting which was in April.

Upcoming events were discussed. The Washita County Fair will be held August 25 thru 28. The Washita County Farm Bureau will have an information booth. They will also present the Skillathon event and the Barnyard Olympics. The Skillathon will be a come and go contest Saturday morning, 8am to 12pm. The Barnyard Olympics will be Friday night with signup at 6:30 pm and contest at 7:00pm. A reward will be presented to the county school with the most participants in both contest and prize for individual winners and the winning teams. The FB Women’s Committee members will read Ag accurate books on Sept 6, and Ag Education Day for 6th graders will be held in November. The Committee hopes to get to reopen Ag in the Classroom programs, and Safety Programs. The Washita County hopes to create a scholarship program for the Washita County Seniors.

Lowayne made a motion to elect Maggie Johnson to the Farm Bureau Women’s Committee Charlene 2nd and she was accepted.

The Women in Ag Conference will be held August 5 and 6. The OKFB Women’s Leadership Fall Conference will be held August 27 and 28 in Edmond, and the OKFB State Annual meeting will be held November 5-7 in Norman. Farm Bureau Area meeting will be held in Hobart at 6:00 pm August 27.

The committee discussed the possibility of a free county movie for Farm Bureau Families. Mary will check into the information.
