Eight persons suffered injuries in a two-vehicle traffic collision south of Burns Flat in Washita County last Friday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
State Trooper John Jones said only one of the eight injured was admitted to the hospital. The others were all treated and released, he stated in his report.
The collision occurred about 4:30 p.m. on SH 44 at the intersection of SH 152, approximately three miles south of Burns Flat, the trooper reported.
Jones said a 2013 Buick was driven by Kelbie Jo Brandt, 27, of Altus and Lucas Adam Martinez, 35, of Clinton, was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Suburban.
The Buick was southbound on SH 44 and came to a stop at the intersection of SH 152. The Suburban was eastbound on SH 152 approaching the intersection of SH 44 when the Buick pulled out into the path of the Suburban, causing the Suburban to strike the Buick on the passenger side, the trooper said.
Brandt, and three passengers, were all transported by Burns Flat EMS to Alliance Health in Clinton in stable condition, Jones reported. Brandt was treated for a head injury and released. Gale Dean Mitchell, 60, of Altus was treated for a trunk internal injury and released.
A nine-year-old was also treated for a head injury and released and a four-year-old was admitted for trunk internal injuries, the trooper said.
Martinez was transported by private vehicle to Alliance Health in stable condition where he was treated for head and trunk injuries and released.
There were seven passengers in the Suburban driven by Martinez, according to the report.
Brenda Martinez, 35, was taken by private vehicle to Alliance Health where she was treated for trunk internal and leg injuries and released.
Four of the passengers, ages 9, 10, and two seven-year-olds were not injured, the trooper stated. A 13-year-old was taken by private vehicle to Alliance Health in stable condition, treated for head injuries and released,
A 50-year-old, Maria Gonzalez, was transported by private vehicle to Alliance Health in stable condition where she was treated for head injuries and released, the trooper said.
Jones reported condition of both drivers at the time of the collision was apparently normal and he listed cause of the collision as failure to yield from stop sign.
In the Buick, seat belts were equipped and in use by all occupants except for the driver. A passenger that needed it was in a proper child restraint, Jones said.
